Changing One's Stripes
This is an architectural fashion that one doesn't find much outside the Arab world, striped buildings. I believe that it dates back to Mameluke days although this building was more likely constructed in the early 1900's.
Is there a particular social or cultural reason for the stripes? I can't think of any striped buildings here in Tassie. I reckon that I would have noticed, they are very striking.
I love this building! I have always wanted to visit Egypt and am happy to see a daily photo blog from here. I think your photos are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love photographs which capture form, shape, and colour in this way - quite graphic.
