A Water Tree
Wood is expensive in Egypt so many things are made from wrought iron. This rack carries earthenware jars that keep water cool by evaporation through the clay. During Ramadan these jars would be upside down and empty until just before sundown.
During Ramadan, people don't eat, drink, or smoke from sunrise to sunset. It can be tough during the summer months. But because it's on a lunar calendar, Ramadan rotates through the year over about 20 years.
So Ramadan fasting also applies to water?
