There's a new Chinese restaurant in Maadi, a family place with easy-going decor, good food and comfortable prices. It also has a surprise for people visiting the facilities, so to speak. We noticed people head for the bathrooms, go in, come out to wash hands and then look stupified. So naturally we had to see what the shock was. Nice touch.

Who Stole The Sink?

ok, i'm stumped. either there is a serious design flaw or there is a drain in the floor. in either case, the results are drippy.
In fact the marble slab is slightly inclined towards the wall so all the water runs back there and there is a drainage system in the wall. Pretty nifty I think, but you'd have a hard time washing something by hand like a silk tshirt.
The first time I went I was also stupefied by the sink. I like the sink, but the prices stink.
The restaurant is always filled with Chinese, meaning, to me, it must be authentic, but the price for a bottle of Omar Khayam wine is over the top (and they don't offer it by the glass either). The food has always been delicious. Also, we live in Maadi and they say they deliver, but when we called we were told, "no delivery."
Coincidentally, we just went back 2 nights ago and they had a new menu. We hadn't been back for a couple of months. It is one of my favorite restaurants here in Maadi.
So which restaurant is it? I'm not used to seeing design like that in Egypt that aren't accidental.
I believe it's called the Shanghai Family Restaurant...actually didn't pay much attention to the name. It's on a corner of Road 231 between The Green Mill and the intersection with the Duty Free Store and NSGB, almost across from Catacomb.
Normal directions for Cairo...at least I didn't say that it was next to the mosque. LOL
Ha! Now that is creative! :)
