Empty Eyes

In a crowded city in a crowded country it is always a mystery why there are so many empty apartments staring down on busy streets. Some are built by parents for children who decide to live elsewhere, others, well who knows the story.

It is indeed a puzzling question. I've heard various answers during my time here but it still so odd. People invested quite a bit of money to raise these buildings only to leave them empty...

Love the title of today's photo

I've heard that the collection of empty buildings on the way to Carrefore, in Maadi, were built over 10 years ago. There's no water connection, and there were legal problems, which prevented them from being finished.

It's sad, since so many people in Cairo have no homes, and these places are left empty, when they could be put to use.

If you mean the ones on the right (desert side) of the autostrade before the Ring Road exit, many of those were built around the time of the '92 earthquake and were found to be substandard building. LOTS of legal problems.

Yeah - near the small pottery shop off the exit ramp. I still get confused by Ring Road and Autostrad, and all that.
