These are sesame plants. They are planted in Egypt during the summer and the stalks are saved after the harvest to use for fencing and thatching.

Interesting! About how tall do they get?
Sesame grows to about 150 to 180 cm. Quite tall.
Oh how interesting, thanks! I love sesame, and never thought to wonder what the plant looks like. It looks a bit like rampaging basil going to seed. Thanks!
