Always Time To Talk

If there is one thing that Egyptians love to do, it is talking. Most of the social interaction in this country is conversation over tea, coffee, a domino game. In this case two friends stop to chat on their way home from the fields, despite the high winds and the stifling dust. It's never too unpleasant for a chat.

When The World Disappears

We had plans for a day long horseback ride this morning but as we were about to leave a huge sandstorm blew up. We went out anyway, but when the wind and sand didn't die down, we headed back home through the dust.

Lost: One Garden Fence

As I was sitting with a couple of friends this morning the wind began to blow from the west. Soon it was strong enough that we decided that the umbrella should come down, and I retreated to the house. An hour or so later, the sky outside the window turned a dark brown and the wind absolutely howled around the garden. One of our wonderful spring sandstorms hit us with a vengeance. The garden fence, which is barely visible in the photo was only about 15 metres away.

A Good Day To Stay Home

Well, there was a general strike called, but the morning itself was enough to keep me indoors. It's a pretty close call whether politics or concern for one's lungs caused a lot of empty streets today. I've heard that the traffic was wonderful for a change.

The View From Here

Okay, hum along with me....April in Cairo, sandstorm is blowing, no one is knowing, their way......

This shot is of the dirt road into my farm. It's about 60 metres from the gate at the end of the road (which is to my neighbour's monstrosity rather than to my place, by the way) to where the car was when I took this with my phone. Visibility was a bit low. So was air quality. All you could do was huddle down inside and sweep the floor two or three times to keep the gerbils from digging tunnels in the living room. Life in Egypt...
