You always seem to take journeys in desert or little inhabited places. Is that the norm in Cairo?
This isn't all that far from a "village" of over 100 thousand people. When we go out riding (and on this occasion we were riding with a lovely British tourist for a 30 mile all day ride) we usually do a bit of desert and a bit of countryside for variety.
Or an Isalmist reason? I really hope Egypt is not going the way of Afghanistan and the Buddha statues.

i enjoy reading your blog. we lived in egypt, all too briefly, some years ago. i adore the land, her people and their history. such a sad thing, when ignorance allows destruction of irreplaceable antiquities.
