One of the things that always fascinates visitors to rural Giza are the water buffalo, or gamoosas. The adults are about the size of a VW Golf, bigger than a VW Beetle. They have a sort of primeval charm and they are calm, peaceful creatures. This new born calf is still small enough to carry though.

I came via the Abu Dhabi/UAE Daily Photo..and I had been here before and then you left on vacation. Wonderful for someone who lives in the states to learn about other cultures.
I don't come by often to leave comments, but I follow all your posts through Google reader. Thank you for taking the time to show us Egypt through your experiences.

I share the little boy's delight in seeing you holding a gamoos!
Pardon the question, but do some people eat gamoos meat?
Water buffalo is sold in the markets alongside beef. It tastes a lot like it, I'm told. I'm more of chicken person, myself.
