I was riding in the desert the other day and spotted a bunch of men digging a neat, tidy square hole in the sand. Thinking that perhaps they'd found something interesting, I rode over and greeted them to be told that they were, in fact, digging up sand. Okay.

It does look like an excavation. What were they wanting the sand for do you know?
I always enjoy yor daily photos.
So interesting. What were you riding in/on? Are you fluent in the local language? Would there be reluctance to say more to you because you're a woman? And how is that broken bone?
The sand is probably to use in making cement for the wall that they are building to control access to the desert, bless them. I was riding one of my horses and I'm fluent in Arabic and well known to the guys working in the area so there was no reluctance, just a lot of laughter. And the shoulder is much, much better...wasn't broken, just had to reattach a muscle.
Strange, they didn't tell you the reason why they were digging up the sand! Must be top secret or some ancient Egyptian treasure! :-D
