The farmers here make pretty much everything they need themselves. In this case it was a bridge to get to the other side of the canal. Sometimes they are made from palm logs, sometimes concrete, sometimes from random scraps of wood.

I want to visit egypt so bad. Lucky you.
If I was to visit do you think it best that visit with a man for protection?
Not so necessary to have a "man for protection" but Egypt is one of those places that I usually advise people to visit with either a friend who lives here or with a good tour the first time. It's pretty chaotic and most people may only speak a little English. I've been here for over 20 years and currently live with only a crazy menagerie for protection. Egypt is a very safe place.

That is a beautiful picture. It is amazing to think of what people are able to do for themselves - I think in western society we have learned helplessness. We need an "expert" to come in and do everything for us.
Kids here love having their picture taken and with a digital camera you can show them too. They get a real kick out of it.

Your picture reminds me of my folks at Naselesele Village, where the Fijians there are also very ingenuous at making make-shift this or that.
Has the Western culture got a grip in the rural areas, or is the slower pace and traditional culture still pretty evident?
is that a strong bridge. its scary thou. i think it cant handle a lot of person crossing it.
