Christmas Shopping at the Fair Trade Shop

We have a lot of choices of places to shop for handicrafts here but my preference is for the shops that make sure that the artisans get their fair profit. This is a shop in Zamalek near 26th of July that carries fabrics, clothing, jewelry, baskets, rugs, pottery, embroidery...just to name a few.

Green Wool

Driving into the Wissa Wassef compound we found one of the daughters supervising the dyeing of the wool used for weaving their famous tapestries. They use natural dyes from the plants grown on the premises.

Wekelat el Balah

Although the name refers to dates, the area is known for fabrics of every possible type. Do you need to reupholster your sofa? You can go to the upscale fabric shops in Maadi or Zamalek, or you can come here and probably find the same fabric for half the price. It's magic.
