View From The End of The Highway

I was coming home from Maadi the other day and we took the last exit off the Ring Road for a change. I stopped to take this shot of the Pyramids of Giza. There is something amazing about having these massive rock piles practically in your backyard.

I couldn't agree with you more!

I also find it amazing to see so much greenery there. I thought the pyramids were in the desert.

The pyramids are on a plateau in the desert that overlooks the Nile Valley. Most of the people in Egypt live in the valley, which is very narrow, perhaps 15 km or about 10 miles wide around Cairo. Some places it is narrower. Most tourists only see the city and then take a bus to see antiquities in the desert and they never have a chance to see the beautiful farms in the valley.

Extremely amazing indeed. I'm glad you still feel the awe after so many years of seeing that treasure every day.

Much more beautiful view than coming up to them from the valley. I had no idea how close they are to the rest of Giza and Cairo until I actually went there.

I like this view also, but every time I see it I'm going somewhere ... Sometimes it's worth to slow down or stop ...

I'll bet it's amazing to see this every day! What surprises me is all the green. Most of the photos I see are very dry and sandy, although I know there is irrigation and lush vegetation in some areas, I don't associate that much green with the pyramids.
