Traveling With a Spare

Automobile drivers carry a spare tire, but they never think about what a cart driver needs. Many of them will buy a new horse when it is still young and let the older horse train the youngster.

Horse carriages were something that I was also very surprised when went for first time in Eastern Europe, but I see they are an often occurence in Egypt too:)Maryanne, did you try riding on some of them?:)

When I was living in Alexandria in the 80's the horse carriages were our favourite way of going around Alex with visitors to see things. In Cairo they are there in Zamalek and Garden City for tourists and nostalgic Egyptians and they do have horse carriages in Giza and Sakkara. They can be a lovely way to travel if you get a decent driver who takes care of his horse. We have a donkey wagon and I'd like to get a small driving cart for the donkeys as well. Much nicer than cars...unless you have to go into the city in the summer.
