Looking For Water

It isn't as though there isn't water here..there's tons of it, but if you want drinking water you have to drill deep enough to avoid surface water that might have agricultural runoff in it. Naturally, they do it by hand, like almost everything else.

I'd like to stand and watch awhile. I don't understand quite how the drilling occurs but I think it would be fascinating to study.

Yes, me too (brattcat)... manual drilling?! Almost a mind-boggler.

Maryanne -- got any technical engineering know-how on how they go about doing this feat! Or is it just a lot of brawn and sweat and blistered palms?

It's not as bad as it looks. They use simple machines..ie, a pulley. Takes about a day or day and a half.
