The Perfect Dress

I live outside Cairo and my kids live in New York, two cities separated by an ocean or two and joined by a unique joie de vivre and a twenty four hour clock. I couldn't handle living in Manhattan although I do enjoy visiting it every so often. Walking through Union Square in June I could barely keep up with all the activities at a weekend street fair. This young woman in a wedding dress and white baseball cap talking on a mobile phone just seemed perfect.

There is something so all American about this shot.

Maybe she was arranging a ride to get her to the church on time...

Sharon you're right, this IS an all-American shot. New York is too much for me as well. I live in the Philadelphia area and that also is getting to be too much.

I have reached the age, as I think a lot of people do, where I am seriously considering a major relocation--like to Spain possibly, where the pace is a little slower and most people aren't compelled to do five things at once like the woman in this photo. At this point I'm just trying to summon the courage to take that leap! Maryanne, you are an inspiration as your life seems interesting and rich. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Ha! You have to wonder what she's doing. Besides the baseball cap, her independence makes her seem American to me. A) She's busy getting stuff worked out on her phone. And B) She has no qualms about roaming the streets by herself in a wedding dress.
